It's Such a Beautiful Day

2012, Bitter Films

Don Hertzfeldt's sublimely surreal film is comprised of three animated shorts: Everything Will Be OK, 2006; I Am So Proud of You, 2008; and It's Such a Beautiful Day, 2011. Featuring brilliantly creative experimental techniques, the films were shot on a 1940s era animation stand over a period of six years; together the three shorts received over 90 film festival awards. Hertzfeldt narrates the story of Bill, a man suffering from some form of dementia. What's truly remarkable is how simple, almost childlike line drawings can elicit such potent emotional responses, reinforcing the fact that the best films are carried by the story, not the style.
