The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

1989, Allied Filmmakers et al

Terry Gilliam can be so misunderstood. Compounding the fact that the film was nearly 100% over budget, it made back one-fifth of its cost. And yet, it received nearly universal critical acclaim, as well as four Academy Award nominations. It takes a special kind of genius to create such delightful madness, as well as a special kind of nerve to pull it off in Hollywoodland. I'm not quite sure what he could have done to "fix" it, at least not without destroying its magic.
