A.I. Artificial Intelligence

2001, Warner Brothers Pictures et al

While it is at times genuinely brilliant, Steven Spielberg's AI seems to be little more than a vehicle to showcase the formidable talents of young Haley Joel Osment. Sublime special effects notwithstanding, the story is at best terribly uneven, seemingly assembled from a series of vaguely-related vignettes. Osment's nearly-over-the-top performance was, for a while at least, pleasantly if awkwardly balanced by Jude Law's charming male prostitute robot. But then there's that ending... that endless, endless ending, which has been aptly—and unflatteringly—described as Kubrick-esque. See it once just for all of the eye candy.
