The Farthest

2017, Crossing the Line Productions et al

At a distance of over 12 billion miles from Earth (or ~20 light-hours), the Voyager spacecraft are the most distant manmade objects in space, and have in fact left our solar system. That they are still functional and still performing valuable science is a testament to NASA in 1977, a time when technology was still quite crude (the craft have less computing power than a digital watch). With their power supplies expected to last at most only another decade, the Voyagers will still continue their journey, chugging along at a paltry 35,000 mph, until the Universe goes cold. Emmy-winning The Farthest celebrates these remarkable machines, as well as the men and women who built them. Although best suited for science and technology junkies such as myself, it nevertheless has a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
