Deadpool

2016, Marvel Entertainment et al

It's violent. It's filthy. And it's hysterical. It succeeds by breaking almost every rule, the biggest one being the fourth wall. There's even a fourth wall reference within a fourth wall reference—so meta. It ranks up there as possibly my favorite superhero film—which seems so wrong.

Incidentally, Deadpool is technically part of the X-Men franchise. But I decided he deserves his own thread, just like Logan. Sue me.

Deadpool 2

2018, Marvel Entertainment et al

I confess, I was very much looking forward to more of the same. Trouble is, sometimes more of the same is too much. It had its moments, and certainly wasn't bad, but somewhere along the line it meandered off course. Can't exactly put my thumb on it. Too many characters? A sappy moral (yes, really)? Don't know. If you watch it and figure it out, let me know.

Brace yourself for Deadpool 3—I hope they set it back on course.
