All About Aurora Postage Stamp Trains
Part 4: Locomotives

Locomotives suffered from some of the same organizational issues that vexed train sets. Items originally released in 1967 had a single locomotive type catalog number, with "road codes" to identify the road name. Then in 1968, Aurora switched to unique catalog numbers for each locomotive type/road name combination. All locomotives were manufactured by Trix in Western Germany. Packaging varied.

In the early 1970s, American Tortoise became the sole importer of these locos, which also appeared under the Model Power brand. Production continued until the late 1990s, when Trix went bankrupt, and their new owner, Mδrklin, ended production of all North American models. Out of necessity, some information is speculative; as always, I welcome feedback.

BUYER ALERT

Because Postage Stamp locomotive boxes do not spell out the road names, and the packaging is physically similar to that of Minitrix, some items for sale may not be genuine. It's a simple matter to remove the Styrofoam nest from a Minitrix box, place it in a Postage Stamp box, and claim it's a Postage Stamp locomotive, when it's not. Please check the detail pages in this section to verify that a locomotive is genuine. More recommendations here.

IMPORTANT

If you should find a genuine Postage Stamp locomotive in a box marked with a road name and/or road code not listed above, please contact me.
