The Company

Tomix is a brand of Tomytec, which is a subsidiary of Tomy, a huge Japanese toy conglomerate. An extensive line of N Scale model railroad items, including locomotives, rolling stock and track, bears the Tomix brand name.

The Figures

At one time Tomix sold rebranded Preiser N Scale figures. As they had for Kato, Preiser painted many of these figures to appear more Japanese. They've been unavailable for quite some time, and consequently the list is probably incomplete.

Tomix issued these sets twice. The first series have Tomy molded into the box lid, while the second has Tomix molded into the lid. The paper inserts for series had orange Tomix logos and are marked "Made in the Federal Republic of Germany," while the second had white Tomix logos and were the first are marked "Made in Germany." The boxes had no other English text.

Diorama Characters

Tomix also produced some N Scale diorama figures. I've broken the house rule of no fantasy figures to give you a taste of what's out there; Sun-Star Stationery and Fujimoto make more, if you're up for a right-angle detour. Images from Hobby Search and Amazon in Japan.

Where to Buy

Tomix products are available worldwide, although their old Preiser figure sets are basically non-existent. I'm pretty sure the diorama characters have all been discontinued, too, and consequently difficult if not impossible to find (I know you're disappointed).
