Unfinished Business

Track 1: Unfinished Business Inspired by a music cue from one of my animation projects, this can of loops went together in a couple hours on the afternoon of 30 April 2024, and inspired me to continue doing more—at least for as long as I was able. This track sounds especially good played really loud. Track 2: Drum Addict Yes, been there, done that, several times. But I can't resist piling on drum samples, and each time I do it, I try to make it more aesthetically pleasing. This one is leavened by a joyous synth melody. Track 3: The Other Side Even though I don't believe in life after death, I enjoy imagining it, especially in the context of sound and music. Here I present the idyllic realm of the afterlife: calm, serene, comfortable, unblemished by pain or strife. The track starts off a little uneasily, representing that transition from the world of the living to the space of souls, but then it all comes together sublimely. Track 4: Myths of Technology Likely one of my more "aggressive" tracks, Myths utilizes a 50-50 mix of hand-crafted percussion and commercial loops. And, once again, as one might predict, percussion is the main focus. Track 5: I Can Do This I'd always wanted to produce a track that relied heavily on string samples, so this piece fulfills a longstanding desire. Track 6: Pleasant Uncertainties On rare occasion I'll be in an avant garde mood, and this track is guaranteed to perplex, amuse, or otherwise challenge you. Track 7: Almost December A dark track, somewhat punchier and more raw than my normal stuff. The percussion solo is my favorite bit, as if that comes as a surprise. Track 8: One Hit Wonder Yet another bunch of drums, lots of banging and smashing. The original idea was to create a track that sort of self-destructs, so be forewarned that things get chaotic and kind of ugly at the end. Track 9: Around Deep :30 Just a tossed salad of long, deep chords and some percussion. A meditation on getting lost in samples, and a good aural representation of how I feel. Track 10: Don't Stop Every so often, as I'm assembling the rhythm tracks for a new tune, I'll hit on something that really grabs me, and I sometimes wish it could just go on forever. This is one of those tunes. Honestly, once I got started building the soundscape, things snowballed; I released it six times until I was happy with it, and each time it got a little longer. If you happen to be terminally curious about the voice samples, it's a woman saying, "Don't stop, don't stop, take the long way home," and a man (Bob Dicker from Lightspeed Drifting) saying, "Love and hate, fire and ice, bring the fire.".
