6. Starting the Good Stuff

Completing all of the ground throw installations was an exciting milestone, because it meant all of the trackwork was done, and I could paint it. But first, I masked off the curved turnout frogs, as I'm certain that cleaning the contact strips in the flangeways would be a real problem. I sprayed everything—ground throws and all—with dark brown primer (I had no concerns about gumming up the mechanisms, as they all worked by "brute force").

But the track really, really began to bother me, and I had an insane idea—see the third sidebar below. Unfortunately the project ended before I could finish anything.
