Freehold, NJ

Freehold is home to not one but two passenger stations, as two lines crossed in the middle of town. Although information is sketchy and hard to come by, it would appear both of them were branchlines: the Monmouth County Agriculture Railroad, and the Freehold & Jamesburg Agricultural Railroad, which still exists as the Freehold Secondary Line, and runs south to Farmingdale.

Located off the beaten path, the station on the former line is an unusual and fascinating stone structure; it's nicely preserved as private business property. The right of way has been gone so long that it's virtually impossible to trace.

Smack in the center of town, the station on the latter line is now a NJ Transit bus depot. Consequently, while it's in fairly good shape, it's lost some of its character.
