Landsend Farm, Part 5 of 8: Tractor Shed/Workshop

Farms often acquire collections of outbuildings over the years; these include such things as tractor or equipment sheds, chicken coops, corncribs, greenhouses and suchlike. Since they're usually built at different times, perhaps even by different people, they will not necessarily all follow the same construction style. This can be an advantage when scavenging for potential sources of model outbuildings.

I've had RSLaserKits Paul's Repair (#RSL-ZPRS-01, a.k.a. Greg's Saloon) in mind to make a tractor shed/workshop since the start of the farm project. Assembly was relatively straightforward, and the only deviations from the kit included omitting the signs, giving it a different roof, and making a concrete foundation.

The foundation was made from thick styrene painted with Floquil Concrete. The top was covered with a piece of black styrene cut to fit inside the building walls; this helps to position the building on the foundation, as well as obscure the view of the interior. The assembly was glued to the surface of the access panel with carpenter's glue, then surrounded by Sculptamold terrain.

I'll confess I'd had a nagging little concern that the structure wouldn't successfully make the transition from quasi-western saloon to farm tractor shed/workshop, but once the assembled structure received a coat of white paint, my concern was at last laid to rest.

Next, I applied a Paper Creek Model Works tarpaper roof, which I bonded in place with thick CA. Then, after glazing the windows, I weathered the building with chalks. The finishing touch was the addition of an N scale caboose smoke jack.
