Hampton Bay

Even a simple oval can be made more interesting by just setting it on an angle; even better, use different curve radii. The only downside to this strategy is that you'll wind up with leftover track pieces since they're not available individually, unless you can find someone willing to sell/trade opened packs. Alternatively, you could build more than one layout—at 20" X 36", this one sure doesn't take up much space! It has no grades, no switches, and no cut track pieces. Depending on the scenery and structures you choose, it can represent virtually any geographic area, from waterfront to desert to rugged mountains. As shown, the vast expanse of river inlet places the viewer's focus on the small collection of detailed structures. Add a lift bridge and a dock, and it becomes a wharf!

Notes on operation: Obviously this plan can only support one short, continuously running train.
