Detailing

Detailing is another serious passion of mine. I view detailing as a virtual necessity; for example, what is a city street without curbs and storm drains? This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Some detailing happens by chance—it's very hard to envision a scene in its completed state and be able to pick out all of the detailing opportunities. At the same time, there are details that I have known in advance I will be adding, often before I even have a place for them. Some are expansive; others are incredibly trivial.

At this writing (8 February 2007), I have the following detailing ideas in the works. There is no knowing which will make the final cut; for the sake of history, I will leave the list intact, activate links to detail pages for those projects that are completed, and add new items that happen to materialize after the fact. In no particular order:

  • Properly constructed curbs and sidewalks
  • Storm drains and manhole covers
  • Full compliment of street signs
  • Mail boxes in front of houses
  • Big junk yard with loads of junk
  • Abandoned coal trestle
  • Tire swing in tree in front of farmhouse
  • As many building interiors as I can manage to make
  • Piles of railroad debris around section house
  • Telephone poles with wires and transformers
  • Electric meters on buildings
  • Hanging laundry
  • City building rooftop skylights, vents, access doors
  • Utility lines crossing creek in town
  • Ruts and mud puddles in dirt roads
  • Antique car show
  • Cemetery
  • Campsite
