Supplies: Acetone

This powerful solvent serves well as a paint thinner or, in particular, a brush cleaner when using solvent-based paints. In particular, though, I use acetone mostly to remove cyanoacrylate from metal models. You can toss a model into a jar of acetone, and in a few minutes you'll have a pile of clean parts. Acetone is the active ingredient in nail polish remover, which is why makers of CA adhesives recommend using nail polish remover to remove CA from skin and clothes.

Warning: Acetone is a nasty solvent. Be sure to have plenty of ventilation when using it. Acetone attacks styrene, so keep it away from plastic models.

Just getting started? Most paint stores and home improvement centers sell quart cans of acetone.
