5.12. Streetlights

Streetlights aren't "special effects" per se, but (like the door lights) they represent a fairly significant investment of effort. I'd built a couple of them for the Mountain Vista, and I figured I may as well make use of them. They're made with (non-prewired) "nano" warm white SMD LEDs and Tichy HO Scale lampshades. About those lampshades, they're cast in grey plastic which happens to be somewhat translucent, and it takes a lot of paint to make them opaque: silver, black, silver, black, green.

They're made as follows: a piece of fine brass wire is bent to an elongated L shape, and the short end is soldered to one connection of the LED. Very fine solenoid wire is soldered to the other LED connection, bonded to the arm, and threaded down the pole through a #80 hole.
