4.15. Warner Tunnel

This terrible photo is the only image I have of the original White River & Northern tunnel. The portals were wooden. The Greystone & Rock Bottom had the same tunnel. The Mountain Vista Railroad had no tunnel, however, mostly because there are no tunnels in New Hampshire, and I was attempting to be a bit more proto-faithful. Instead, it had a long, deep cut. Obviously a return to the original track plan forced me to have a tunnel on the current layout; I also added a long cut as a nod to the Mountain Vista.

Reference

I'd wanted to model this tunnel in Bellows Falls, Vermont, but there simply wasn't the space.

Located in Clinton, Massachusetts, this "generic" tunnel offers guidance for the other portal. Note the telltale suspended between the rock walls.

Named For

Glenn Warner is a good friend and, for many years, a fellow volunteer for a small tourist railroad.
