4.10. Kapuscinski Bridge

The original White River & Northern had a curved wooden trestle and a short truss span.

It was built from balsa stripwood stained with coffee. (The layout smelled great on warm, humid days.)

For the Greystone & Rock Bottom remake, I straightened out the trestle, ditched the truss, and moved the S-curve to the lower track. I also generated artwork to laser-cut most of the parts.

Although this was a definite improvement, it did not survive when the Greystone was decommissioned. When I started work on the Mountain Vista Railroad, I was originally going to build a new wooden trestle. However, somewhere along the line I switched to a steel trestle, and as much as I love wooden trestles, I liked this one a bit better for the setting.

I used the steel trestle from the Mountain Vista, although its depth created an issue where the line crosses over itself. A couple of reference photos provided a solution to the problem, as did a pair of Micro Engineering girders and some Evergreen strip styrene.

The trestle was completed, painted and installed on 13 May 2021.
