3. Fond Memories

Aside from the Postage Stamp set that got me going, the layout featured a number of first-generation plastic kits. They were all European buildings—but that didn't bother me. I didn't know any better; I was just thrilled to have launched into model railroading, something I knew in my bones would be with me for the rest of my life. I wasn't wrong.

The earliest N Scale structure kits were made by Faller, Heljan, Pola and Arnold, and were imported by AHM, Atlas, Aurora, Revel and others. Some of these kits number among my favorites, admittedly due to the nostalgia factor. How many of you remember building these?

The last of the bunch—Pola's stone enginehouse, as sold by Atlas—is one that I kept in my kitbashing arsenal right up to the end.
