Locomotives: Mack 12-Ton Gas-Electric #1

Reference

There's a long and colorful history of BR&W #1 in its first years at the railroad. In fact, it was the first one to pull a train: it was an "inspection" run for the investors prior to the grand opening, and the poor little guy had to be shut down every few miles to cool off.

Steve Harrison

Built by the Mack Truck Company in 1931, it was one of only nine ever built. Originally used for switching at the Bigelow-Sandford Carpet Company in Amsterdam, NY, it was later sold to Crucible Steel Company in Harrison, NJ, and shunted cars until 1952. BR&W purchased #1 in 1964, and it was in operation until 1974. Today it's a static display. #1 produced 85 horsepower, and could move 300 tons... barely.

The Model

Thanks to some new models from World Craft, a Japanese manufacturer, I may have a chance to model a functional version of #1, or at least a close approximation.
