Boring Block of Buildings
These two reference images perfectly capture the "real" Jersey City—in particular, how large swaths of it are populated by perfectly boring buildings. The temptation for most modelers is to focus on more interesting and varied architecture, so the challenge here was to dial it back and concentrate on ordinary in order to remain authentic.
Fortunately DPM made a few Plain-Jane kits, and by mixing and matching parts from them and others, I could assemble whole blocks of boring buildings with enough variation to avoid having too many duplicates.
Where these boring buildings could get interesting is with their shape, as opposed to their architectural style. Here's a wedge-shaped corner building inspired by another reference image (although it's hard to see it, left of center, for all of the signs and billboards).
