Frisbee Game

Like the other animations on the Saturday at the Park diorama, this was done purely for fun, and not meant to be realistic or taken seriously. Having said that, it was a serious challenge to pull off.

It starts with a chain drive mechanism driven by a motor that's reversed when one of two limit switches is tripped. They're tripped by an anchor attached to the chain that holds the ends of a loop of monofilament thread. This thread runs through a pair of guides made from fine stainless hypotubing. The guides hold the thread taut just above the ground at about scale waist level. Bonded to the thread is a thin slice of fine styrene rod stock that I colored with a fluorescent orange highlighter for visibility.

Incidentally, I looked up the typical speed of a frisbee in flight, calculated that to scale speed, and roughly matched it with the mechanism. It's okay, you can call me obsessed, it won't hurt my feelings.
