Model Airplane Flying

This was done long ago by my friend Rick Spano:

When I finally got around to doing it myself for the Saturday at the Park diorama, I wanted to "spice it up" somehow. What could I do to up the ante? How about providing the ability to change the elevation of the plane? It wasn't easy—my workbench was littered with reject parts—but ultimately I succeeded. It came down to one critical part: a tiny pivot right under the pilot's feet. Soldered to this pivot is a length of stainless steel hypotubing, chosen to try and jeep the "jiggles" under control. I also added a stabilizer wire made from 0.005" stainless music wire, which pivots in the pilot's chest.
