SYNOPSIS
The crew of the Lightspeed capture and interrogate a mechanaut: a highly sophisticated, super-intelligent, AI-driven machine.
DIRECTOR COMMENTARY
After quitting the series, I got talked into going back and doing more by a friend who really loves the show. This episode had already been written and the dialog recorded, although I ended up completely rewriting it. I dispensed with any sort of humor in favor of sharing serious thoughts on war, prisoners of war, and artificial intelligence; hence Dicker is a lot sharper than he normally is. It is, of course, a classic Trek "Kirk outsmarts the smart machine" episode. Of note, it contains one of the few, if not the only, unbleeped f-bomb in the series.
