Episode 16: The Middle of the Night

SYNOPSIS
On their way to rendezvous with the rest of their Misfits, Dicker and crew are drawn to an uncharted planet being besieged by Clobbernauts.
COMMENTARY
Hands down this is my all-time favorite episode. Humor. Action. Heartache. Resolve. The pace is consistent, the dialog tight, the drama compelling. At least in my opinion. I spent a considerable amount of time on two beats in particular: one is the radio montage, the other is the suicide run. Altogether I spent weeks on the episode, carefully re-cutting and re-re-cutting the action scenes until they practically crackled.
Even then, some things were difficult to nail down. Originally the target planet was to simply be an anonymous "innocent bystander." It wasn't until very late in the game that I thought to make it a Catalien sanctuary. But I'm glad that I did, because it upped the stakes for the Rogue Wars to come... which, sadly, never materialized.
As a side note, the whole exchange between Dicker and Dare about educating Nurse Spandex was meant to lead into her total transformation from ditz to doctor, but alas this would never take place either.
