To-Do List: GuttersOriginally I'd wanted the gutters to match the roof. But the roofer was kind enough to warn me this could be rather costly. So I hit the Internet in search of a more mundane DIY solution, where my choices were white and brown—the latter being my preference. The gutters will all drain into two buried pipes that carry the rainwater out beyond the deck in order to prevent soil erosion on the steep slopes around the house. Here, my helper digs trenches for the drains. By 18 February 2019 I had most of the materials needed to get started on the gutters themselves. But I also made a fortuitous discovery: Rust-Oleum Satin Moss Green is a very close match for the roof color. So, I'll have matching gutters after all, for just the cost of a few cans of spray paint. The first—and most important—length of gutter was installed on 23 February 2019. It was important because it protected the HVAC compressor from the deluge of water from the roof. The northwest side of the house finally got all of its gutters on 26 August 2019. And the southeast side was wrapped up on 7 October 2019. Return | To-Do ListCopyright © 1996-2024 by David K. Smith.
