Birds of the Sanctuary: Purple Finch

This brighter-colored cousin of the House Finch is considerably less common, and indeed I've only ever seen a handful, whereas I've seen dozens of House Finches and perhaps hundreds of Goldfinches. They also share the same food preferences.

Females are more slender, with brown streaks and speckles replacing the splendid raspberry red of the males.
