Birds of the Sanctuary: Hairy Woodpecker

The Hairy Woodpecker has been described as a Downy Woodpecker on steroids; they're slightly larger than Robins, and have larger, thicker beaks. They enjoy suet the most.

Just as with their smaller counterparts, males have red patches on their heads.
