Grump Central Archive: Week of 28 October 2018

An aching body precluded doing much yesterday, even though it was in the 70s again, while today is being drowned out with rain. I did learn that the delivery date for all of the Pella fixed windows has been moved up to 21 November, which is as good as it's ever been. With delivery for slider windows on 16 November and the patio doors for the deck on 24 November, I could possibly have the house buttoned up by December, weather permitting. But there are so many moving parts to this project that there's no knowing.

Wacky weather day yesterday: high in the 70s. Fine by me. With rain predicted for today and tomorrow, I got as much done as I could. Now I've got super-sore muscles on top of the flu.

It's official: I won't be in the house until sometime next year. Thanks to the delays caused by the window rep, the windows won't all be delivered until two days before Christmas. This really complicates certain steps to complete the house, particularly the well connection, because that can't be done until the house has heat, and that may be in the dead of winter when the ground cannot be excavated. It's all such a mess right now. On the brighter side, a young model railroader friend showed up to help work on the house yesterday—it's amazing what a strong, healthy person can accomplish. He'll be back tomorrow for more punishment.

The roofer arrived yesterday and officially got the roof started. I still wasn't ready for him as this flu has slowed me down to a crawl, but we worked together to move things along very well.

I got a surprise yesterday: electricity!

I should have been in bed yesterday, as I've come down with the flu; instead, I nearly killed myself working on the fascia in preparation for the roofer. I had no choice—I cannot postpone the job, and work starts tomorrow. I should be excited, but instead I feel like death warmed over, and I only got about half the work done. Not to mention that it's nearly November, and I'm still a very, very long way from moving into the house.

Today I will need to accomplish as much as I possibly can on the fascia since the roofer will be arriving Monday to begin work—or not; it's supposed to rain again. Either way, I'm more than likely going to overdo it. I have no choice.
