The heat wave is over—for now, at least; yesterday the predicted high was 73°, while the actual high was only 67°! But it also rained on and off all day, thwarting my plan to install gutters. No matter; there are countless indoor tasks to do as well, and in fact I had a great deal of fun breaking in my brand-new three-year-old table saw. Today's image is another flashback: here's the main living space as it looked on 21 July 2016.

Here's how the shower looked on 20 May 2016, complete with a sample of the floor tile posed in place. Strange to think that, very soon now, I'll be putting down tile I'd bought over three years ago...

The good and the not-so-good. I know I harp about how long it's taken me to get where I am today, and that's not so good, but it's much better to consider that only one year ago this very day the house was still merely a shell: no doors, windows, or roof. Now I'm living there. And very soon my residence will be made legitimate by a TCO—yes, I finally have all of the necessary paperwork. Why is everything such a struggle?

My first interior door is in. I chose the bathroom door so guests aren't faced with the awkward prospect of using a bathroom with no door. But now I have competing tasks: interior doors, the shower, and the rest of the sheetrock. Better than not being able to do anything, to be sure. And now that we're in the midst of another heat wave, inside jobs will be the only practical option anyway—even though I also finally have all of the gutters I need to get that job done, too. Decisions, decisions!

The shower is taking shape, but oh, it's such a slow process cutting each tile to fit. The closer I get to my goal, the further away completion seems.
