Grump Central Archive: Week of 16 December 2018

After two days of heavy rain, I'm pleased to say my home is dry as a bone—for the first time. It felt really good.

I've been way overdoing it, and now my back has gone bad, so I'll have to slow down significantly for a while. That's the bad news; the good news is that I may have just secured somewhere between half and two-thirds of what I need to make the house habitable, thus my GoFundMe goal has been reduced drastically. I think I can do almost everything except the deck—which I can live without for quite a while. We'll see. Oh, and more good news: it looks as though a new red fox family is moving into the den abandoned a couple of years ago. I can't wait to see what may come of this. And finally, thank you, Christian, for the card!

Made some nice progress yesterday, but it's supposed to pour cats and dogs today, so any work I do will be indoors.

Just piddled around yesterday—including painting the house number. I also received a totally unexpected package... Thank you, Jeff! Your thoughtfulness helps restore my faith in humanity.

With the garage door installed and fully operational, I'm now parking my car in the garage with the door closed just like a normal person. I'm just not living in the house like a normal person...

I thank two of my kitty's namesakes for their holiday wishes. And I thank the gang at Pine Creek Railroad, a surrogate family that's sorely needed in spite of (or perhaps because of) being totally dysfunctional. As well as the emotional support of my modeling friends at The Railwire and across the pond. You've all helped keep me sane during insane times in an utterly, completely insane world.

As an aside, I've had multiple requests to reinstate my opinion essays and media reviews. I'm sorry, but because they've given rise to truly disastrous consequences, they shall forever remain offline, I'm afraid. I have so few friends left that I'm not about to risk further losses over such a trivial thing as ideology.

Volunteer work yesterday preempted any house work. Today we're supposed to enjoy heavy rain. It may be a day of rest. Whatever.
