This little bug-catcher (an Eastern Phoebe) and its mate frequent a tree at arms-length from the kitchen window. Just one of the countless reasons I love this place.

Today we're supposed to go from a low of 54 last night to an afternoon high of 79. How the hell are we supposed to dress when the weather is all over the flipping map? Oh, and guess what... more rain today. So more indoor stuff getting done, I guess.

Now that I'm in a position to become more active, my body is refusing to cooperate. Having had degenerative disc disease since my twenties, I have a number of discs that occasionally go on strike, and I'm now suffering from a herniated disc in my neck. The consequence is intense shooting pain down my right arm and tingling numbness in my right hand, making it difficult to do much of anything. Getting old really, really sucks. Oh, and gee, it's raining again...

Halfway through May already. We're seeing the sun for the first time in a while—three solid days of rain seemed more like a week. My siding is a bit worse for wear (it was covered, but the wind tore it off), but it's still perfectly useable. Now maybe I'll have a chance to get some of it up.

How to burn through a dozen sheets of sheetrock in a day: do a bathroom. The transformation was so sudden that it still startles me when I see it. Meanwhile, we've survived another straight day of torrential downpours. More is expected today, but it's not supposed to be as bad. We'll see.

It rained solidly all day yesterday, and it's predicted to do the same today and continue through tomorrow (some areas of New England are expecting snow!). Even though there's no shortage of work to be done inside, it would be nice to work outside again for a change. We're well into Spring, after all...

About the image: Back in August 2015, around the time I moved out of the camper and into the cabin, I decommissioned my clothing storage boxes and made them available for kitty fun. And here they are enjoying the boxes, as if on cue. Clockwise from the top: Roy, Pris, Katy, a.k.a. Mommy, and Zack. (I captured it on my "dumb phone," hence the lousy quality.)

So here we are back in Seattle again. I was awakened this morning by the sound of heavy rain on the roof. But it doesn't bother me; I've got a roof over my head—my roof. The one I always wanted, the one I built, the one I can finally live under. It's quite the thrill.
