Grump Central Archive: Week of 7 January 2018

Saturday, 13 January 2018

After peaking at 63 yesterday, the temperature is on its way back down into the teens tonight. Just like my mood. Friday's promised call never came, and with this being a holiday weekend, I'll have an extended wait until I learn anything. Why is it these critical decision points always seem to arrive just before a holiday? It almost feels like a conspiracy to prolong my anxiety.

Just like the snow, the radio silence has ended; my attorney called late yesterday, advising me to expect the results of their negotiations sometime today. So now my mood has shifted from deepening depression to nervous anxiety, as I await news of my fate going forward. I barely slept as my heart raced all night. I'm doing my best to distract myself with some modeling, but it's not working very well.

Thursday, 11 January 2018

As a prelude to the rains tomorrow, it's overcast and dreary. Which pretty much sums up how I feel at the moment.

Wednesday, 10 January 2018

We're on track for another good day of melting; I'm anxious to see this snow gone. But the mood upswing brought on by the warmer weather is cancelled out by a complete lack of response from my attorneyŚno replies to emails, texts or phone calls. I don't know whether to be concerned or angry.

Tuesday, 9 January 2018

Ahhh, blessed warmth. After a light ice coating overnight, which makes everything look like a glazed doughnut, we're on our way to a predicted high in the 40s. By the end of the week, we're in for a possible high of 60! Meanwhile, the continued radio silence has my stomach tied in knots.

Monday, 8 January 2018

The good news is the super-cold is over; the bad news is now we face the possibility of an ice storm tonight. But since I don't need to go anywhere, I'll take ice over cold. And a potential for 50s by the end of the week sounds like a heat wave is on the way. Meanwhile... radio silence.

Sunday, 7 January 2018

After my one and only chair completely collapsed under me yesterday afternoon (the back had broken off Monday, 18 December), I ventured out through the snow to get something cheap to hold up my butt. I picked up one of those old-fashioned steel folding jobs, so I know it won't fall apart anytime soon. And it was only $12. Then I had to bundle up for the coldest night so far, bottoming out at -1 degrees early this morning. Hopefully the worst of it's over for now.
