Grump Central Archive: Week of 5 April 2020

The kitties continue to provide considerable entertainment: here, Roy and Pris take turns nesting in the kindling box. For whatever reason, they love sleeping on the pile of crinkly paper stored there. It's awfully good I've got them—they're the only bright spot in my life right now.

Good thing we got to do the pup watching when we did, because in a few days their den won't be visible as things turn greener by the hour. And we're in for more wacky weather: tonight it's supposed to drop down to freezing...

Yesterday, some work got done on the house. This was a case of something that had to get done: I had my helpers apply Tyvek to the short walls over the roof, portions of the house that got soaked every time it rained and had no siding to protect it the sheathing. I feared this material would soon become damaged, especially given how often it's rained so far this spring, so now I'll rest much more easily.

I've not seen the fox pups for the last four days, so I don't know if they've moved to a new daycare facility or what, but I recall the last time there were fox pups here, the same thing happened. Anyway, now that it's getting warmer, I can open the windows, and my kids sure enjoy it.

It's getting green! It's my favorite time of year, as things turn my favorite color. And it's happening sooner—I've checked my photo archives, and comparable images were dated 13 April last year, and 24 April in 2018. Pretty soon it may start getting green in March...

The return of a tiny friend: this Eastern Phoebe was here all last year, perching in the same tree and doing the same loops up to the corner of the roof and back to catch bugs. It's good to know we haven't decimated all of the birds yet, and even nicer to see some of the very same ones returning to their favorite spot—especially when it's right outside my kitchen window!

No fox pup watching, so it's back to kitty watching. My kids have become so fond of drinking from the kitchen sink faucet that they refuse to drink from their fountain or bowl in Kitty Central.
