Grump Central Archive: Week of 3 June 2018

Saturday, 9 June 2018

Although it was radio silence yesterday, I suspect it won't last long this time. Why the sudden change in behavior? I could be wrong, but I think the buyers are anxious to wrap this up quickly now because they're named in a foreclosure lawsuit. I'm named in the suit as well, but my reputation is already ruined, so it doesn't matter to me, whereas they have a business to run and need to steer clear of legal entanglements. So, for a change, a bad thing is working in my favor. Meanwhile, my poor bedraggled-looking kitty went in for his first check-up, and he passed with flying colors. Whew!

Another beautiful day got overlooked as I wrestled with multiple issues. The commercial property buyers have announced they want to close in 30 days; it seems they've finally become as sick of this crap as I've been for the last three years. That may sound like good news, except that they want to leave the past-due tax issue entirely up to me to resolve. No way am I cleaning up the mess they've made! So we may be in for some legal haggling. Meanwhile, my cat got his cone off during the night—no surprise there—and I'm debating whether or not to bother trying to replace it, since he'll just keep ripping it back off. More worrisome, though, is that his siblings are picking fights with him, and getting his meds into him is a losing proposition. It's all a lot to process, and I'm feeling quite overwhelmed; I'm running out of adrenaline.

What a brutal day Wednesday turned out to be. The lawyers are talking, at long last, but while they're making some semi-hopeful noise, for the moment it's still just noise, as far as I'm concerned. Meanwhile, I had to pick up my poor kitty. His two emergency surgical procedures (removing an enormous bladder stone and correcting a prolapsed rectum) have left him nearly half-shaved, and of course he's wearing a cone of shame. What a heartbreaking sight! Plus now I've got a big bag of meds to administer—I'm terrible at giving meds to cats—and he's got to go back for two follow-up visits. So the next three to four weeks are going to be very challenging, to say the least, and in multiple ways.

The lovely weather yesterday was wasted on me as I sat on pins and needles all day waiting for news about my cat, as well as news about my property situation. My cat is recovering nicely, I'm relieved to say, and may be returning home today. My property situation, however, is still in limbo, as radio silence continues. Nothing that I or my attorney have said or done has had any effect on the buyer's attorney. He is unprofessional to the extreme, and after a quick search online, I found exactly one review of him—a scathing review that summed up my thoughts precisely. So at the very least, I'm not alone.

Look in the dictionary next to the word 'disaster' and you'll see my Monday. I now have a cat in the hospital who requires emergency surgery to the tune of around $6K. Lucky for him I'd been saving my pennies so I could have permanent electricity installed. Also lucky for him he's more important to me than permanent electricity. Oh, and it was yet another day of radio silence. Plus a check I was owed on the first has yet to arrive. That was my Monday. How was yours?

Sunday improved after I went off to do my semi-usual volunteer work. But the good vibes soon wore off as I returned home to face yet another week of anxiety. And pouring rain. I've been to Seattle, and it's not as bad as this.

Sunday, 3 June 2018

Spent a wonderful afternoon yesterday with a big bunch of friends at an open house—it was just what I needed, when I needed it. I've also been receiving some very supportive emails from across the pond. Today is shaping up to be the polar opposite, starting with... wait for it... more rain.
