Grump Central Archive: Week of 2 June 2019

Saturday, 8 June 2019

Yesterday was somewhat nicer than expected, although the humidity was still pretty grim. I worked on the trim around the front porch until I couldn't deal with so much sweat any more. As for today's photo, I came across a brief video of Zack taken in January 2015, when he was just a couple of months old, and grabbed a frame. Sooo cute! Although I didn't think so at the time, compared to the present, those were really good times.

Yesterday was spent just piddling around, being as kind as possible to my aching body. I definitely overdid it the last three days, but it was also definitely worth it. Anyway, the weather was seriously muggy—making for a good test of my home's climate control characteristics. Mid-afternoon, the temp at the shopping center was 87°; outside in the woods, 83°; inside with the windows open and the ceiling fan running, 73°. I'm happy.

Yesterday began much like the two before, and I got a fair bit accomplished early in the morning. Then I took a spill—nothing major, just a skinned elbow, but it slowed me down and work sort of tapered off after that. It's just as well, since the afternoon became hot and muggy, giving way to evening thundershowers. Today is supposed to be rainy, so I'll likely do some tidying up in preparation for rocking the garage.

Wednesday, 5 June 2019

Started the day with a mercifully brief but violent Sarcoid attack, owing to all of the exercise I've been getting (the good always seems to be balanced out by the bad). Nevertheless, the visible progress is encouraging. Best of all, all it costs is sweat, since these materials have been sitting around since last October. Kind of embarrassing, I know, but that's how things go 'round here.

Right now I'm in agony, and I blame it on the great weather we're having. How could I waste an utterly perfect day yesterday (70°, mostly sunny, light breeze, low humidity) sitting around being unproductive? That's depressing. And today is supposed to be a carbon copy, so I'm psyching myself up for even more pain. Besides, given that New Jersey's weather is becoming more like that of Seattle, I can't afford to waste any good opportunities. Incidentally, last night was so chilly (47°) I had to turn on the heat!

The view from my kitchen is becoming more normal, now that I finally got around to connecting the septic pump control, allowing me to fill in the trench that was there since January. Note that the entire area will eventually receive more soil to raise the grade up to the tops of the two septic access lids.

The computer seems to be back to normal, more or less, so I don't have that stressor hanging over me, although once this sort of thing happens, one tends to react more intensely whenever there's the tiniest of glitches. Meanwhile, not much else has been happening; the weather has been super wet, and my neck has been super sore.
