Limping along with a balky computer feels as though I have a broken leg.

June is almost here, and aspects of the house are tantalizingly "real"—far enough along that I can envision it done, yet actually being done seems almost infinitely far away, as if I can never move fast enough to get there.

One year ago today things were looking pretty grim: the uninhabitable house had seen virtually zero progress for close to three years, and I was driving a 12-year-old rust bucket about to collapse any minute. How things have turned around! And yet, I can't help but feel I've taken three steps forward and two steps back. It's difficult to articulate, but I still have a vague, inescapable sense of defeat.
Lesson for the day: Don't leave the garage door open. Wildlife will enter. Yesterday I was surprised by a little toad hopping through the living room! I had to carefully escort him back outside—the poor little guy must have been terrified! Where the hell am I?
