No progress on the house yesterday as I pursued my first day of extra-curricular activity (sound design and mixing for an indy film), which all three of my readers may be pleased to know has gone very well indeed—so well, in fact, that after 2.5 hours of work producing 2.5 minutes of audio, the director has already invited me to walk the red carpet at the premiere. Now, I just have another 20-30 minutes of sound left to fix...

Oh, and still no rain to test my new gutters. Figures.

It never rains but it pours. Literally a few days apart, I've received invitations from two independent film producers (real ones, not amateurs) to become involved in their projects. For one, I'm tasked with some of the audio engineering; for the other, I'd be doing stop motion miniature animation. These are things I did quite a lot of back in my youth, and to think I might return to those heady, creative times is thrilling to say the least. That my house project will be slowed as a result is of no consequence; I'm not on the clock to have it finished by a certain date, but film production has hard stops, and I'm champing at the bit to get started on them both. You know the old saying, ask a busy person...

Oh, and today's image? Squirrels have been feasting on nuts in a tree that hangs over part of the roof, littering it with the remains. Inside, it sounds a bit like gentle rain.

Funny how, now that I've got most of the gutters up, it hasn't rained. And the forecast calls for clear weather for the next several days. Figures, right?

Among several other things I accomplished yesterday, I hung the door to the studio—a.k.a. the train room—which gave me an excuse to finally put a sign on the door I've had for many years. Despite the fact that the room is unfinished, and it'll also be the last one to be finished, it made the prospect of returning to my long-neglected hobby just a bit more real.

The humble moth can be a thing of beauty if one takes the time to examine it closely. This little guy was watching me put gutters on my house yesterday, and posed on the roof nearby just long enough for me to capture a portrait.

If you had X-Ray vision and looked at my kitchen today, this is what you'd see. Actually, it's 19 June 2016 and I was starting work on the most exciting part of the house to build.

Golly, August is nearly over, and we'll soon be in "back to school" season. I've always hated that time of year, because it meant returning to daily bullying. Even though it's been well over forty years since I've had to endure that nightmare, I still suffer pangs of anxiety, albeit greatly diminished. Today's Wayback image is from 30 December 2017, another period of my life I'd pay to forget.
