Grump Central Archive: Week of 7 June 2020

With the camper gone, morning light around the house has changed; in some areas, it's dramatic, and others more subtle. For instance, notice the extra light on the ground in the lower right corner of this view from the living space.

My new favorite view is out the kitchen windows. What a treat to see nothing but trees!

Now I can begin a series of images: views of the house and property impossible until now. Here's the house from the middle of the side yard. What looks like a giant pole sticking out of the roof is a big, handsome tulip poplar tree.

What's wrong with this picture? More like, what's right with it? No camper! It's not yet off the property, but it's been moved to the driveway next to the garage where it can easily be taken away, very likely in the next week or so. You have no idea what joy this view brings me: this is land that has not seen sunlight since November 2013. Two down, seven to go.

13 June 2016 was the day framing for the tub enclosure began, so this odyssey is almost exactly four years old. But when was the last time I took a bath? That I figured was likely in the neighborhood of 2005, so it's been 15 years since then. The experience was so decadent that I almost felt guilty doing it, but at least I lived long enough to fulfill one of my dreams. One down, eight to go.

Now, that's close! The doe in the first image could have left her nose print on the window at one point, and her brother would have been standing in the middle of the deck had it been built. In other news, the bathtub arrives today. That's got me excited: I can finally check off one of my bucket list items—the first one to get checked off.

Last year at this time I was all excited because I had running water and working lights in the kitchen. Now I'm actually cooking and entertaining.
