SYNOPSIS
At the Martian embassy, Bobbie forces Captain Martens to disclose the reason behind her team's death on Ganymede, and Martens reveals the Protomolecule weapons development project, which is now up for sale. Bobbie then surrenders to the UN, requesting political asylum, and passes along what she knows to Avasarala. Jules-Pierre Mao offers to meet with Avasarala aboard his ship in neutral territory to discuss the weapons project. She accepts, despite Cotyar's objection.
Aboard the Arboghast, Colonel Janus and Iturbi prepare a modified probe to investigate the Eros crater on Venus, and discover massive Protomolecule structures.
On Ganymede, Holden and crew discover a Protomolecule laboratory complex in the old part of the station. Prax triggers a gun battle with the lab team there, and learn that Protomolecule hybrids are actually Belter children with a unique genetic defect. A hybrid breaks out of his transport cell, kills the lab team, and escapes the station.
Concerned about the arrival of the MCRN Black Ops ship Karakum, Alex plots a gravity-assist course down to Ganymede to rescue Holden and crew. After Alex arrives, Holden plans a hunt for the hybrid, but Naomi stays behind to help the Somnambulist evacuate people off of Ganymede.
ANALYSIS
"He met monsters in Patagonia, mate."
The pot really gets a good stirring with this installment, whacking us over the head with Bobbie's surprise defection to the UN, the discovery of Protomolecule alive and growing on Venus, a hybrid attack on Ganymede, and Naomi's split with Holden. While it feels just a tad sudden, it's nevertheless heartwarming to watch the complete about-face of Colonel Janus and Iturbi's relationship.
Best Scene: Bobbie going postal on Martens is a real adrenaline rush. "What!" punch "Killed!" punch "My!" punch "Team?!"
Best Line: Having asked Bobbie for help, Avasarala says she didn't mean cause a political incident. Bobbie flatly replies, "You should have been more specific."
