Company Profile: Herpa

History in a Nutshell

Herpa Miniaturmodelle GmbH was founded in 1949 by Wilhelm Hergenröther in Nürnberg to make structure kits, scenery items and accessories for model railroads; Herpa comes from the original company name, Hergenröther und Patente. In the 1970s they began making model trucks and automobiles, and in the 1980s they ventured into model airplanes.

Herpa Wings was presented at the Nürnberg International Toy Fair, and has become the product line by which they're best known. Made in scales of 1/200, 1/400, 1/500, 1/600 and 1/1000, the line presently comprises around 4,000 different versions of 300 airlines in 19 different aircraft types. Incidentally, Herpa also acquired the Minitanks product line from Roco in 2007.

N Scale Products

Herpa's original line of N Scale plastic structure kits is long discontinued. More recently, for reasons unknown, they rebranded some cheap Chinese bulk N Scale figures.
