What the hell is this all of this shit anyway?

Back in the early 1990s, I learned how to code web pages so that I could make a buck building commercial websites for businesses. Along the way, I created a little personal site of my own as a learning tool, and was surprised to find that, not only had it been "discovered," but that it quickly became quite popular. Although now very different in appearance, that first website still exists today, and is even mentioned in several books. I've since added scads of other sites covering a wide array of topics. In the process, I've acquired something of a following from people scattered all over the globe.

If you are new to this domain, you're probably thinking, everything here looks so old-fashioned! That is not due to a lack of skill; I'm a professional visual designer/graphic artist, and I've also worked as a web application programmer doing some pretty esoteric stuff (genetic engineering, anyone?). The thing is, there's absolutely no need for any fancy stuff here. Indeed, visual styling more often than not can distract from what's important, rather than enhance it.

And what's important? Information. In the early days of webmastering, the prevailing philosophy was Content is King. Here, at least, it still is. Everything is very deliberately "old-fashioned" by design; every one of the many thousands of pages was coded by hand.

Unfortunately, February 2020 marked a turning point in my life: I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, which is now far enough along that I'm currently on hospice care. Consequently my website has become something of a barometer of my health for those who have been following me. So, what becomes of all this when I'm gone? A good friend and fellow webmaster has kindly agreed to "keep the lights on" so that, while there won't be any more updates, the information will stick around for the benefit of those who make use of it. See you on the other side, boys and girls!
