Blog Archive: Week of 30 September 2018Saturday, 6 October 2018Next week is shaping up to be fairly busy: electric service line conduit installation on Tuesday (finally, hopefully), and window manufacturer meeting on Thursday to look and samples and talk price. On the bad news front, the architect says he'll be two weeks late. Disappointing, but not at all surprising. Friday, 5 October 2018Two nights of rain. The house roof is sprouting more mushrooms—I'm waiting for my body to sprout some as well. Thursday, 4 October 2018It would seem all of the puzzle pieces for getting the electric line installed next Tuesday are finally in place. But based on past experience, I'm not counting on smooth sailing, especially where the line meets the existing transformer—I see a potential for all sorts of problems. Meanwhile, I've still not heard back from the window manufacturer, the roofing contractor or the architect. I'm getting too old to deal with this crap. Wednesday, 3 October 2018Yesterday I had my revised will notarized, and it's a huge relief knowing that things will be handled properly should I meet an untimely demise. Tuesday, 2 October 2018With the exception of the foundation—which well and truly spoiled me, since it went flawlessly—work on the house has been and continues to be fraught with roadblocks every step of the way. Electric service conduit installation has been postponed, and architectural drawing revisions haven't even been started yet, days after they were promised to have been finished. Monday, 1 October 2018With the arrival of October, I feel as if I've failed to accomplish much of anything. Waving money under contractors' noses no longer seems to be an effective motivator. Sunday, 30 September 2018The sun has made a long-awaited return, which has allowed me to resume work on the house. The place reeks of mold.
