Blog Archive: Week of 19 August 2018Saturday, 25 August 2018The month is almost gone, and I don't have a whole lot to show for it. Part of that is due to the challenge of trying to get back up to speed, but part is also due to external delays. Both were expected, to be honest, but I'm still not happy about it. Friday, 24 August 2018The window people called to postpone their appointment. The Township has yet to arrange for inspections. And JCP&L has gone quiet. I'm ready to go! Why isn't anyone else? Thursday, 23 August 2018Between the JCP&L debacle and tomorrow's appointment with the window manufacturer, my guts are being turned inside out. Wednesday, 22 August 2018Tuesday came and went with no inspections, or even a call from the Township. Ordinarily I'd have been in their faces about it, but my attention is instead focused on the fresh new JCP&L debacle. Tuesday, 21 August 2018It's supposed to be inspection day, but I've not yet received confirmation from the Township, so I'm not sure they'll be following through. However, I've received an extremely troubling call from JCP&L: it seems their requirements for permanent service have changed such that multiple new burdens have been placed on their customers. It's all detailed in the new section added to The Battle for Electricity. Monday, 20 August 2018I've scheduled an appointment for Friday morning to get an estimate on the windows and exterior doors. This will be the scariest visit of all, since I know the sixteen custom windows—four of them over four feet wide and nearly seven feet tall—will cost a king's ransom. Meanwhile, rough plumbing and electric inspections are tentatively scheduled for tomorrow. But a complicating factor is that it appears Lyme Disease has reared its ugly head again: I woke up yesterday feeling as if I'd been run over by a caravan of buses. I really wish I was a cat. Sunday, 19 August 2018On this day three years ago, I was plotting out where the septic tanks would be buried. Those tanks remain empty... but hopefully not for long.
