Blog Archive: Week of 14 February 2021Saturday, 20 February 2021It's supposed to be "nice" for the nest two days, where "nice" means there isn't frozen crap falling from the skies. But it does mean bundle up—highs will be around freezing and lows in the teens. Which means the stuff we just got will be with us for a while. Then, come Monday, more frozen crap is supposed to fall on us. Friday, 19 February 2021Well, we're white once again. And here my driveway had just cleared off...Then, today we're supposed to see all manner of freezing and/or frozen stuff fall from the sky, followed by a night in the teens to lock all of the crap in place. Thursday, 18 February 2021How times have changed. Used to be you could almost always find someone's teenage son to do odd jobs for you, like clean gutters. Now, they're either too lazy to get off their butts, too afraid of the virus, or too incompetent to manage the simplest of tasks. Now you need to call a bunch of overpriced professional contractors, vet each one, and hopefully find one that's willing to come out within the next three months. Wednesday, 17 February 2021It's another attack of the insane manic weather forecasts. Yesterday it was predicted that tomorrow it would be rainy with a high of 50. Now it's become a major winter storm, with a warning for up to five inches of white crap and a high of 32. I do wish someone would make up their mind. And here my driveway was just starting to clear up... Tuesday, 16 February 2021Got my Ubering done yesterday, so I'm good to go for a while. The driver, a neighbor of a good friend, cut me a break, so I'll not hesitate to call upon him in the future. Who knows, he and my friend may wind up knocking a few back together at my place. Monday, 15 February 2021Assuming all goes well, I'll be out and about this afternoon, Ubering around town to get some just-in-time errands done. And if the forecasts are right, Tuesday will bring much-needed snow-melting rain... and then Tuesday night it'll all freeze. Meanwhile, moods are subdued all around as I learned a friend was just diagnosed with cancer. With Covid perpetually in the headlines, I think we sometimes forget there are other diseases that threaten us. Sunday, 14 February 2021It's my best friend's birthday today, and neither one of us can do anything about it, just like we couldn't do anything about mine, which was last week. So, we'll just have to wait until the Big Thaw and celebrate everything all at once. Older < Index > NewerGO HOME | Copyright © 1996-2024 by David K. Smith. All Rights Reserved. |
