Suicide Squad

2016, DC Entertainment et al

I often wonder, when watching a not-so-great film, how does it slip past so many eyeballs without getting caught? Do they use drugs or cash to keep the project running right up to its release? Suicide Squad was panned mercilessly, and I can fully appreciate why: the only thing going for it was the CGI, and even that was a little shaky on occasion, while the ordinarily entertaining Will Smith phoned in his performance. But then I learned it raked in three quarters of a billion dollars at the box office, and I begrudgingly acknowledge the wisdom of the filmmakers: throw enough stars, comic characters and effects at the screen, and something is bound to stick.
