Lost in La Mancha

2002, Lucy Darwin

Terry Gilliam hired Keith Fulton to document the production of Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. But little did Fulton realize that he would chronicle a complete disaster. The resulting documentary is an honest, unflinching, real-time look at a production as it implodes. Everything that could possibly go wrong, went wrong—and then some. As a student of film, as well as a Gilliam fan, I felt it could have delved much more deeply into things, but for general audiences it's likely the right length. In keeping with Gilliam's life, it's as funny as it is heartbreaking.
